I connect a TRS cable from NGEN’s MIDI Out to the MIDI In of a 1010music Bluebox. The Bluebox does not indicate that it’s receiving MIDI clock, and its delay FX doesn’t respond to changes of NGEN’s tempo while Free Clock is active. Can I get some advice on this?
Have you tried sending MIDI clock TO the NGEN? That would confirm that it’s not a cable problem. From what I’ve been able to find, the Bluebox should automatically accept the external clock. And, it supports TRS A and B, so it shouldn’t be that, either.
I’ve tried a known-working stereo aux able, and I’ve tried two TRS MIDI adapters joined by a known-working DIN MIDI cable. bluebox still doesn’t detect MIDI clock. I’ve tested NGEN MIDI DIN out, and while there’s the expected MIDI note and CC info, MIDI Monitor does not report any MIDI clock coming from NGEN or any kind of MIDI sync info. I asked about that at this thread, but I’ve never received a reply.
Everything else about my NGEN works fine, aside from the frequent freezes and restarts that others have reported. But if it also does not send MIDI clock from either of its MIDI outs, then is there a way to rule out that this is a defective unit?
That’s odd! Yeah, sounds like you’ve tried anything I would have. If you can send MIDI and CC, then everything’s good and connected, it’s just not sending a clock. I don’t think there’s any additional steps you’re not doing. All I have to do is set my MC-101 to accept an external clock, then set the NGEN to Free Clock and it drives the MC-101. I suppose you could try re-installing the firmware, but I would expect the same results after.
I hope the dev will respond to this issue soon.

I’m sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I really wanted to finish 1.4 first so I could give you a better answer.
If you’re are receiving MIDI notes from NGEN’s TRS output then it probably means your cables are working correctly and it’s unlikely that there’s a problem with the unit itself.
The MIDI Clock output for FreeClock was disabled on NGEN in 1.3 due to some issues related to the TRS output (except for HW v1.0) which was probably why you were not able to send clock from NGEN to your other gear.
The good news is that the new 1.4 update re-enables Clock output for Free Clock and improves its accuracy.
Please let me know if you’re still having problems with 1.4.
