NGEN crashes/freezes more often

I have used NGEN regularly in the last few months. Really love the concept.
Unfortunately I´m expecting more and more crashes. Sometimes two or three freezes in an hour. And all nice patternbuilding is lost.
Such freezes occur when I´m turning the program knob, occur when I´m saving a pattern and it occurs when I´m saving a project.
Crashing is not dependent on the connected hardware. I have tested NGEN with Yamaha CS6r, Alesis Nanosynth, Yamaha TG33 and others.
Was trying to establish a little live setup with NGEN but with these unexpected crashes I will not go to stage.
I´m using firmware 1.3. In my mind older firmware was more stable.
Looking forward to a next more stable firmware.

From my experience with crashes I’ve learned to

  1. limit all project names to 7 characters out less

  2. wait several minutes when a freeze occurs because some will unfreeze on their own, and others will allow hitting the return button so that you recover control without losing anything

I have no clue if these will be relevant to your freezes. Most of my freezes require a power cycle, but with my habit of frequent saving, I don’t get hit intolerably often.

Hey folks, sorry for the delay, I’ve been focusing on finishing the new 1.4 update which I’m hoping to release in the upcoming weeks.

Oh I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with crashes @soundinett, it’s definitely not the experience I want for NGEN.
I’m usually testing and using NGEN during most of my days but perhaps there’s a usability pattern that I’m missing during my tests.

Can you tell if these crashes usually occur when you try to perform an action (such as saving or adjusting a parameter) or by itself while it’s playing? Or both?

And when those freezes occur, does NGEN continue to play or does it also stop playing (so only the display freezes)?

It’d be incredible if I could get some additional information such as what storage method you’re using (internal vs sdcard), what clock source you were using (MIDI vs Free Clock, or if it happens with both), and if you’ve noticed it happening more often with specific generators or MIDI FXs.

Thank you for jumping in.

Freezes happen when I extensive browse the programs of an external synth. NGEN suddenly stops playing and does not react to any knob movement. I have to restart. Seems to me that there is a buffer overflow.

Sometimes it freezes when saving a project. Then I also have to restart.
I save internal, use Midiclock and there is no special Midieffekt involved when afreeze occurs.

NGEN sometimes freezes without a obvious reason. But always when I change parameters.

The good news, I´have spent several days without a crash working hard polishing eight pattern of a project to make a song.
